On Friday, September 23, 2022, Hurricane Ian formed over the central Caribbean Sea as the ninth tropical storm of the 2022 season. It then grew and on September 28, Hurricane Ian reached top maximum sustained winds of 155 mph hours before landfall, when the hurricane was 2 mph away from reaching the strongest classification on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, Category 5. 


On September 29, 2022, Hurricane Ian travels through Southwest Florida and is going to be known as one of the most powerful storms to hit the state. The storm destroyed the roads, toppled tress, tore down businesses, set cars afloat, and left a trail of ruined homes from the coastal cities of Naples and Fort Myers to inland Communities around Orlando. The homes were unrecognizable, crunched together in a pile. When surveying the damage, sheriffs and other officials struggled to describe what they were seeing. Governor Ron DeSantis even stated that the aftermath of Hurricane Ian will be years long recovery. 


Hurricane Ian is Florida's deadliest storm since 1935. There were as least 101 deaths that were linked to Hurricane Ian, majority from drowning. In Florida they counted about 92 deaths, 5 in North Carolina, 3 in Cuba, and 1 in Virginia. Due to the storm locations such as Cuba and Florida are without power. Many people are devastated to lose their homes, it truly makes you feel helpless and powerless.
